Carlos Mateu  -- Carlos Mateu was born in Havana, Cuba.  He has resided in the United States since 1997.  He studied in Cuba at the Fernando Aguado y Rico Technological Institute and later at the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in mechanical drawing and fine arts.  In addition to his artwork, he has worked as model maker, illustrator and graphic designer.
His paintings represent landscapes, still life, abstraction, and surrealism. His style utilizes straight lines and perspective, creating a geometric and three-dimensional effect.  He uses intense colors and textures with acrylics and oil pastels.  His style reflects a mixture of his experiences as mechanical drawer, graphic designer and fine artist.  His subject matter reflects his memories of Cuba, his life in the United States and his own creative perspective on the world around him.
